Where does Evolution Leave God?

November marks the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin's On the Origins of Species. We will spend six weeks exploring how his ground-breaking biological theory has come to represent an overarching worldview that influences many other ways we perceive our lives.--even in areas quite distinct from biology. For instance, many Christians accept the scientific theory, but must we also accept the various social perspectives and ethical assumptions that it has spawned?

November 24-December 15
Mentoring with Confidence

Mentoring confirmation students is just one way we are asked to speak clearly about the faith of the Church. This four week session will look at the basics of Christian theology and life. This is not only for current confirmand mentors, but also for those who want to brush up on the foundations of Christianity in order to speak more confidently with friends and neighbors if ever asked, "So, what do Christians believe?"

January 5-19
An Overview of the Psalms

Psalms are at the heart of our faith. They have played a central role in Christian spirituality since its earliest days. Psalm 23 is a beloved devotional reading for help in times of trouble--but there are 149 others that have much to offer. This overview will open the door to savoring these devotional prayers, heartfelt laments, and hymns of praise.

January 26-February 9
Men's Gig and "Wingclips" Commentary

Dr. Haddix will lead a men's study incorporating the film, "Bridge Over the River Kwai". For others, there will be a look at current films' depictions of Christian themes of redemption, sacrifice, hope and the like.

February 16
Mardi Gras Celebration

February 23 - March 23
Romans for Everyone

This Bible Study will draw on the insights of the well-known Angelican Bishop and New Testament scholar, N.T. Wright. This is an extremely accessible way to study some of Paul's most important writings on Christ's redemptive work and the Christian life.

April 6 - May 11
Faith in Action

This six week period will be focused on preparing for Sunday, May 16th when ASC will let loose our congregation to perform "random acts of kindness" for the community of Bangor. Much more information on this will be forthcoming.
